About Astrid
Any love of writing must
inevitably begin with love of
reading. Ever since I learned
how to read, books were my
beloved companions. I would read
late into the night – if
necessary under the covers with
a flashlight so Mother would not
know that I was still awake.
In school I excelled at
languages. I grew up in Germany
where teaching of foreign
languages is considered
important. By the time I left
high school I had a good command
of three languages: German,
English and French. In business
school, which I attended in
Germany, I was told to look into
a career in advertising.
That was to actually happen many
years later – after I had left
Germany for the United States at
age 22. Since 1978 I have held
positions in marketing,
advertising, public relations,
customer service and export
sales development. Writing was
always my favorite among the
many responsibilities a
marketing manager takes on in a
small company.
I must have done something
right, because on more than one
occasion the small company was
acquired by a large company.
That was good news for the ego,
bad news for job security.
Luckily I had been freelancing
on the side, writing copy for an
advertising agency which allowed
me to learn about many different
types of clients. In 2008 I
decided to quit employment and
start my freelance practice.
What I bring to the table is
experience in the following
industries:

types of writing I have done.
